Our Services

A steam trap survey is an essential part of looking after your steam system. A good analogy would perhaps be like giving your steam & condensate system an MOT.

Replacement of a single failed open steam trap identified during a steam trap survey can easily cover the cost of the survey itself – So you have nothing to lose & only savings to gain

Objectives of Steam Trap Surveys

  1. To reduce operating energy losses – directly & indirectly
  2. To remove/reduce waterhammer within steam & condensate system
  3. To improve safety of steam & condensate system
  4. To reduce leak potential
  5. To reduce corrosion within the steam & condensate system
  6. To reduce standing load (steam usage when boilers up to pressure but plant not in production)
  7. To remove pressure within the condensate return pipework (from failed open steam traps)
  8. To aid condensate removal from affected traps which would otherwise operate correctly.
  9. To reduce carbon footprint

Steam Surveys

Our reputation has led to us carrying out work for a number of high profile clients, including BootsRolls-RoyceWarburtons and many more, saving companies money by servicing unproductive and inefficient plant machinery. Trapsurv specialise in thorough and detailed steam trap and steam system surveys, ensuring that health and safety standards are met and avoiding both water hammer and general energy wastage. The surveys also identify any potential problems that may occur in the future, keeping the amount of downtime required for future repairs to an absolute minimum.

All of our steam trap, steam system, valve and plant surveys can save your business thousands. For more information, or to request your survey, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the experts at Trapsurv today.

We provide our method Statements & Risk assessment to you prior to arriving on site.

  • We locate each steam trap
  • Tag each steam trap – Using a unique tag number relevant to the area (Prefix BH-01 = Boiler House – trap number #01etc.)
  • Record all necessary data including; Area Location/Detailed Location Trap Model/Size/Connection Type/Suitability/Present Condition
  • We check that the steam trap is suitable for the application
  • We check that the steam trap is sized correctly (has a condensate capacity suitable for the application)
  • Test the steam trap for correct operation using ultrasonic tester & Laser Thermometer
  • Include any necessary comments that may be required – leakages/installation issues/improvement suggestions/recommendations

Our test equipment is intrinsically safe for use in explosive environments.  We can test high level traps safely using extension probes and we also have up to date IPAF mobile access (MEWP) licences.

Once the survey data is collected

We put it all together in a bound report (you receive an electronic copy of the report) which includes

  • Full steam trap inventory
  • A failed list of steam traps requiring attention
  • A report highlighting any major improvement recommendations – long & short term
  • A loss calculation for the failed steam traps
  • Any steam trap rationalisation suggestions – if required

Additional Survey Comments to consider including

If you are unsure if you require a steam trap survey please give us a call where we can perhaps ask a few questions which will help you decide.

If you’re still unsure we offer an introductory priced 1/2 day survey to walk your plant and undertake a preliminary survey.

If you have less than 50 steam traps 1 day in most cases will be all you need.

We recommend you consider having a steam trap survey visit if you

    • Have steam venting from boiler feed tanks or Condensate receivers
    • Have waterhammer
    • Have large steam generation costs
    • Have increasing steam costs
    • Not had a survey before – or for over 12 months a steam trap survey

Don’t worry if you don’t know how many steam traps you have or where they are located – we’re used to following steam systems.  We shouldn’t need to use your time and resources any more than a quick tour of your plant.
